Food rescue power! Thank you Food Hub Volunteers!
We’d like to say a HUGE thank you to our volunteers who are at the heart of the Hub. Without them, nothing happens. Our team of 40 food rescue heroes get up with the lark every weekday, come rain or shine, to harvest leftover food from supermarkets and get it to community groups across the town. Our “backroom” team make things work smoothly, and because we’re a food business there’s a lot of paperwork to keep on top of.
It would be hard to find a group of people as cheerful and energetic as our volunteers. People volunteer for many different reasons, but it’s safe to say that everyone hates food waste. Some are motivated by the food smiles they get from the groups who use our good quality free food, others want to make a contribution and find it a stress free way to do it - “you’re up early, but you know exactly what you need to do and you’re all done by 9am.” One volunteer explained "it’s a great thing to be a part of. It's wonderful the friendly and caring attitude of so many people from all sorts of backgrounds, linking up to put something back into our community.”
If you’d like to find out more about volunteering with the Hub, please get in touch here. We’re looking for new volunteers to help with:
Early morning collections, food sorting and delivery from about 6.45 - 8.45am
Chilled food collections and deliveries mid morning on a Monday and Thursday
Stock take and depot cleaning Wednesday am
And coming soon .....evening collections of chilled food for the new community fridges about 7.15 pm
Making sure things work smoothly by keeping track of food safety paperwork and how much food we're collecting
Organising fundraising events and making trust applications.
