Shrewsbury is gearing up for a knockout fundraiser on 21 March as Sam Pitch, long‑time supporter and former Depot Manager of Shrewsbury Food Hub, prepares to step into the boxing ring . A champion of the Hub since its earliest days, Sam is taking part in the Ultra White Collar Boxing Charity Event to raise vital funds for the charity she’s helped to shape.
Over the years she’s seen the difference the charity makes to residents of Shrewsbury and beyond, “Growing up, I experienced food insecurity first hand so I understand how difficult it can be for individuals and families living on limited means, to support themselves with nutritious food. What I truly value about Shrewsbury Food Hub is that they offer dignity, accessibility and choice through their food shares, community relationships and cooking initiatives,” Sam explains. “At a time when the cost of living crisis hits hard, their work makes a real and immediate difference.”
Sam believes strongly in the Hub’s mission to prevent food waste. She points out that, while food is one of our most essential resources, “entire crops can be left to rot because market demand isn’t there. Large retailers continue to discard tonnes of perfectly good food each year. We should be far more concerned with getting food into ‘bellies, not bins’.
Taking part in a charity boxing event felt symbolic for her, a way to challenge herself physically and mentally while fighting for a cause that matters deeply. “Boxing is about facing discomfort head‑on,” she says. “It represents fighting back, against past struggles, against complacency, and against systems that leave people without support. Stepping into the ring is my way of turning strength into positive impact.”
Date: Saturday 21st March 2026
Event: Ultra White Collar Boxing
Location: The Buttermarket Shrewsbury
Funds raised from the event will help Shrewsbury Food Hub continue rescuing and delivering surplus food to charities, groups, families, and individuals. It will also support the charity’s work to protect the planet by reducing food waste.
