We’re really proud to share that Shrewsbury Food Hub has been awarded a Shrewsbury Mayor’s Special Award.
The Mayor’s Special Awards recognise individuals and organisations he has personally seen making a difference, showing dedication during his mayoral year or supporting the community through exemplary service. To receive this recognition means a great deal to us.
At its heart, Shrewsbury Food Hub is about neighbours helping neighbours, we now support around 4,000 people every week, reaching roughly 5% of Shrewsbury’s population. We operate seven days a week, collecting surplus food from nearly 40 local suppliers, carefully checking it, and redistributing it to more than 90 local community groups across the town.
This work helps ensure good food doesn’t go to waste and that people across Shrewsbury have access to the nutrition they need.

A Shared Achievement
Our nomination highlighted the dedication, reliability and selfless service of our volunteers, and we couldn’t agree more. Without them, Shrewsbury Food Hub simply wouldn’t function. Week in, week out, our volunteers collect, sort and deliver food with huge hearts and a genuine sense of care. Through their neighbourly commitment, surplus food becomes a way to nourish and nurture individuals, families and communities across Shrewsbury. We don’t do this work for recognition. We do it because food matters, because community matters, and because supporting one another makes Shrewsbury stronger. But knowing that this work has been seen and valued is hugely encouraging. This award belongs to our volunteers, staff, supporters and funders as much as anyone.
We felt it was especially important to bring along one of our young volunteers, alongside our Depot Coordinator who leads our Sunday depot team. As a hub, we operate seven days a week, and we wanted to ensure our weekend team was represented too. Our entire Hub family is absolutely thrilled, and we wanted everyone to share in this accolade and feel part of the achievement.
Keep Supporting Shrewsbury Food Hub
To continue nurturing our community in this way, we rely on ongoing support. If you already help, thank you – your contribution truly matters. And if you’re thinking about getting involved, whether by volunteering, donating or partnering with us, you’ll be making a real difference to people right here in Shrewsbury. Finally, our sincere thanks to the Mayor for recognising the work of Shrewsbury Food Hub and the people behind it.
