After it’s success in 2022, Argos and Sainsbury’s are again helping to combat child food poverty this summer. The Breakfast Club will provide 178,000 breakfasts across the Northern and Scottish Regions via the Breakfast Bag initiative.

Shrewsbury Food Hub was asked by Sainsbury in Meole Brace to help. We are key to getting the bags out to the community through our already established schools and community group networks.

In each bag, kids and their parents will find ambient and longer shelf life products such as cereal, long-life milk, jam, biscuits and fresh fruit such as bananas, apples and oranges.

Tammy from the Hub says “We know the Sainsbury team well from our daily pick ups of surplus food. It’s good to be working with them on this additional project. The summer holidays can be long for some families, initiatives like this do make a difference”.

Sian, Youth Support Leader from Shropshire Council, came to our depot this week. She collected bags to distribute to the families connected to her work in the community. Look out on our social media feeds for more stories about where the bags will find themselves over the next few weeks.
