Weekend Volunteer Drivers Needed

Updated: Aug 4, 2020

[Update 4/8/20: We've had a fantastic response to this call out for volunteers. Therefore are no longer advertising the positions. We are working through the applications and will respond to you ASAP if you have got in touch. Thank you! We can always rely on our super community to help us out!]

Would you like to make a difference in your community and for the environment? Come and volunteer with Shrewsbury Food Hub!

We are looking for weekend volunteer drivers to rescue surplus food from supermarkets and deliver it to Foodshares at our partner groups. You will need your own vehicle or if you have experience driving a van we can train you up to drive Ronnie (our Food Hub van!)

You can commit to as little as one weekend morning a month, or every week if you're keen! We can work around you. It's an early start but the role normally takes max. 2 hours.

Saturdays 7:30 - 9:30am or Sundays 8:30 - 10:30am

Your Role

You will be put on a rota to collect surplus food (which is still good to eat but would have been thrown away) from up to 6 supermarkets across Shrewsbury, sort it to ensure safety, then deliver to a Foodshare. You can do this on your own or as a household pair (due to Covid restrictions).

We will provide all the appropriate training; food safety (specific to surplus food), manual handling and of course an induction on how to collect from stores and deliver. This includes training on covid safety and the provision of PPE.

I'm interested, what next?
