Everyone welcome at #Foodshare
Updated: Nov 9, 2020
Shrewsbury Food Hub and partners are running #Foodshare sessions across the town 7 days a week. This blog post lets you know what to expect when coming to #Foodshare.
Where does the food come from?
Shrewsbury Food Hub collect left over food from supermarkets, which is still good to eat but would otherwise go to waste. It is shared with partner groups across the town including foodshare tables open to all.
Who can come to a foodshare?
Everyone is welcome! We need everyone’s help to get this good food eaten and stop it from going to waste. Especially in the holidays, when the schools that we usually deliver to are closed.
What type of food is there?
We never know what we’re going to get but there will ALWAYS be bread and bakery items! So if you love bread please come! There will be fruit, veg and sometimes eggs or frozen food. Some days we have lots, some days less, but everyone is welcome to come and have a share.
Do you have to pay?
The foodshares are run on a pay as you feel basis, with an optional donation of a penny up. No worries if you don’t donate – you’re helping by getting the food eaten.
How do they work during coronavirus?
We ask you to not come if you or a household member have symptoms or have had a positive contact. Everyone is required to wear a face covering (unless exempt) and we ask you to sanitise your hands when you arrive. Many of the foodshares take place outside (under gazebos) but if indoors we limit the number of people inside at once. There are markers so everyone can queue 2m apart.
Most importantly you are guaranteed a friendly welcome at the foodshare. It’s a good chance to catch up with neighbours (from a distance!). We love that the whole community comes together to get this good food eaten!
